shadowKAT

Okay, so my friend Kat and I decided to write an entry about each other because, well I'm not sure. We're just weird like that. And I'm moving to a different school, so it's nice to reminisce. =) Kay, here it goes:

I first met Kat in the 8th grade. We were introduced by a mutual friend (let's call her Courtney because that may or may not be her real name). I believe it started with:

Courtney: Hey, you like Inuyasha, right Arielle?
Me: Uh yeah, I guess.

Courtney: (pointing to Kat) She likes Inuyasha, too.

Or something like that. I can't quite remember but I'm 100% sure it had to do with Inuyasha. And I remember being annoyed because apparently, I was some superior anime nerd who though people who just watched Inuyasha on Adult Swim were inferior. I was a nerdy snob. Anyway, we didn't become friends right away. There were a couple of other meetings that were related to me liking KagomexInuyasha and Kat hating Kagome... It was weird. Haha. And then we gradually became closer friends. I'm not sure how it happened, but I'm sure it was because of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Kingdom Hearts, Naruto, and deviantART.

And stemming from those common interests was: EWC. The Elemental Wielders Club. We thought we were Keyblade masters and we were associated with certain elements. I was water/ice, Kat was fire, and Courtney was air. Actually, "was" should be "is," because we still use those elements to associate each other with. Why we were acting like Keyblade masters in 8th grade was probably mostly because of me. I'm really fantastical and imaginative and I like to start different "clubs" every year. But that's a different story...

And I just remembered I had to make a list about her:
  • She has the nerve to text me right when I'm about to go to sleep, asking me to go on Yahoo Messenger and making me believe that she had to talk about something really important, but we end up having a conversation about random things as usual
  • We have the common skill of procrastinating. Especially on our stories that we should be writing.
  • RoRo Rafael comes from her genius mind.
  • Our inability to make more than 3 posts on an RP forum.
  • Her inability to inform me that aluminum foil is flammable and if I put it in the microwave, it will set on fire.
  • She is one of the few people who I can have an intellectual, open-minded conversation about all that deep stuff.
  • Her ability to make me fall to my knees with one word: Strangers.
  • Her ability to tolerate my incessant nagging about shows and comics that nobody else cares to hear about for long periods of time.
  • It was through our many YM conversations that things like "CF" came about. "ATM" seems to be a new one.
  • Her ability to make me totally depressed about her original character.
  • Her vicious art skills that make me quite jealous of her because of how insane they are.
  • She likes a certain [almost] middle-aged actor. I think I got her into him.
  • One of her nicknames is Kitty. Which makes me envy her sometimes because I'm jealous of anyone with something in common with my favorite characters that I don't have in common with.
  • Which means, she has a legitimate excuse to use Shadowcat as a codename.
  • We have a common love for redheads.
  • Her inability to pay attention to TV shows or movies I want to show her.
  • But atleast she actually tries to watch them. =)
  • She's the only one who likes the same type of music as me, and I can tolerate whatever music she sends to me.
  • Her ability to compete for thermal dominance with the sun.
  • Her insane lacrosse skills.
  • Her ability to tolerate my tendency to interrupt people in the middle of what they're saying.
  • Her ability to tolerate my galaxy-sized ego.
  • Her ability to not show her annoyance at my geeky references.
  • Water pickle.
So yeah, I'll miss you next year, Kat. You left a lot of fun memories and may there be more. =)
(Oh, and here's Kat's POST.)

Battlestar Galactica and some college plans

I just started watching Battlestar Galactica. And it. Is. Frakkin'. Awesome. Why is it that I don't realize how awesome something is until it's over? It sucks I just got into the fandom now because I can't watch it on TV anymore... so I have to rent the DVDs from Blockbuster. I'm still in the first season but I first got into the series when I saw the series finale at my cousin's house. So I already know everything that happens. Haha. And I spoiled myself alot. I can't help it!

Boomer/Athena is my favorite. And no, not only because she's Asian. She'd still be my favorite even if she wasn't. In my opinion, she's the most tragic character in the story, and tragic characters are always my favorites. Her "cute Asian" look just adds to the favoritism. It's all about "Breaking the Cutie." Haha. Seriously, though, it's sad. =(

I'm planning to do ROTC in college, but I can't decide between Air Force and Navy. I want to be part of some action and be able to travel around the world, but the most important thing to me would be engineering, I guess. I'm too short to be a pilot, so I still want to be part of aviation somehow, like mechanics or developmental engineering. I could do that in both the Navy and Air Force, so I'm wondering which one would be better for me to join. Thoughts?

Zukartney is OUT!

Ladies and gentlemen, Jesse McCartney has been pulled out of The Last Airbender movie due to "scheduling conflicts." Yeah, I'm so sure. He's been replaced by Slumdog Millionaire's Dev Patel. I must say, I came home from school and found the news and I was absolutely overjoyed! I almost cried from happiness. Although some people think it's a little fishy, and I have to agree with some of the negative feedback. You could always find negative things about this sort of stuff, but I encourage that you try to look at this in a positive way. They're finally taking a small step towards the right direction even if it may not be a perfect one. I also have to mention that I think Patel would make a better Sokka than Zuko, but atleast McCartney's out. And listen guys, they're finally listening to us! So keep fightin and let us be heard!!! W00t! lol

Also, Jessica Jade Andres has been cast as Suki. I don't know her but she looks Eurasian; I just hope she can kick butt because that is exactly what Suki does.

Extra Note: I'm really happy because I always wanted to be Azula, but that dream came crashing down when Jesse was casted. Now that he's gone maybe I still have a chance. I mean, Patel's brown, I'm brown, we could make it work. XD And if not, I'll be Toph. lol. That is, if I can actually start an acting career... wish me luck! Haha!

Being Asian is More Than Just a Tan

So, many of you may be aware of the recent casting of all white actors in the live-action adaptation of Avatar: the Last Airbender. If you haven't: unknown Noah Ringer as Aang, Nicola Peltz as Katara, Twilight's Jackson Rathbone as Sokka, and Jesse McCartney as Prince Zuko. I don't really feel I need to express my opinion on this issue because everything I need to say has already been said. All I can say, as a Filipino-American and someone who would love to be an actor someday, the casting of all white leads in a film based on a show heavily influenced by Asian culture, is disrespectful to the original source and is a form of racism.

Please visit the following links for more information and take your time to really read them. Don't just look at this situation as "hardcore fans accusing the production companies as racists." It is so much more than that. It's something that I believe everyone should be aware of whether you are familiar with Avatar or not.

English is H.E. double L

It truely, truely is. And it's only the first week. I've actually had a whole lot more homework in Pre-cal than I've had in English, but it's English I've been stressing over. Just knowing how awful this semester is going to be gives me panic attacks. And because Mr.M thinks I haven't read Les Miserables. More than half the class has no idea what's going on, and he's pissed, even if he doesn't show it. All he does is smile and talks really calmy, but he looks like he's planning to kill us. And I know I'll be killed this semester. I can't survive English class. Just the very thought of it makes me have a heart attack.

But technically I DID read the book. Did I read it thoroughly and actually pay attention? No, but TECHNICALLY, I DID read the whole book. So TECHNICALLY, I'm not lying when I say I read the whole book. You can't accuse me of not reading it. And you know, I'm not afraid to admit that I don't know what's going on, I just don't want someone to think I didn't even try reading. Cause I did. So anyway, I have to write a paragraph about quotes or something from the book this weekend. That's sorta alright, except I don't wanna do it. But then, an ESSAY TEST on Monday. I'm so screwed. I so am. I have to like, re-read the book this weekend and I know I won't. I'm going to have so many distractions this weeks. My friend's sleeping over tonight and tomorrow night, and my Grandma's coming tomorrow night, and if my friend gets outta my house by Sunday noon, I'm gonna go out with my other friends to work on our math homework. I know I won't get to reading Les Mis this weekend. AGH I'm gonna fail!! And not only the test, the entire semester! Especially since I don't talk in class; I'm gonna get a zero in participation. I bet Mr.M hates me now! I can see it in his eyes! T.T

And 2nd Semester Begins!

I just started 2nd semester today... yippee. No really, YIPPEE!! Only one more semester, and then Summer time! And no EOC classes. However, there are some downfalls to this.

My schedule: Honors English II, Honors Pre-Cal, Chinese II, Art II.

English and Pre-Cal will probably be my hardest classes of the year. Especially, English...

My English teacher (let us call him Mr.M) is not a bad teacher. He seems like a really awesome guy, and a really good teacher. My older sister had him, so I know this for a fact. He's into discussions and participation, and is very challenging. That's the problem. I do not talk during class. Like, at all. I don't write. I don't like having to answer questions where I have to "write a short paragraph about what the following passage means." I don't like presenting projects. I don't like analyzing literary works. I don't like English class period. Whether my teacher is cool or not, I have never, and will never, like English class. And Mr.M's English class is 100x worse than a normal one. I've heard about it from other people from school, and it's not one of those "Oh, he's actually not that bad; they're exaggerating" kind of situations. It's actually true. I don't want to get too worked up though because it'll drive me more crazy than it already is. All I can say for now is: I'm going to fail this class. And I say that about a lot of classes that I actually always get A's in, but this one: I know I'm gonna fail it. And he's already caught me rolling my eyes about the writing-3-days-a-week thing. But it's all good; I'm the secretary of the Chess Club of which he is the club advisor. =D

Pre-cal, I don't really have to say much about it except it's math. Without the use of my precious graphing calculator that I have learned to rely on for the past two years. So you get the idea. The second half of my day is the only good part about it. Lunch, Chinese where nobody does anything, and then Art, which is well, Art class. And from the assignment list, it seems we'll be starting out with hand drawing, detail drawing, then figure drawing. YES! I love Art II already!

Okay, that's it for now. I'm getting tired and I have to do the dishes. Peace out.
